Hyatt announces its ninth Los Angeles area hotel

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1997--

Hyatt Valencia will be Santa Clarita Valley's first full-service hotel Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corp. today announced that it will manage a new hotel in the planned community of Valencia in the city of Santa Clarita, Calif. The hotel will be called Hyatt Valencia, and it will be the community's first full-service hotel. Construction of the six-story hotel has begun, and the hotel is scheduled to open in the spring of 1998. Hyatt Valencia will beowned by The Newhall Land and Farming Co., a developer of new towns and master-planned communities. Newhall Land is developing the community of Valencia on a portion of its 37,000-acre ranch in the Santa Clarita Valley, a rapidly developing commercial and residential area about 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Valencia has more than 33,000 residents and several office and industrial parks, including the third largest business park in Los Angeles County. The 250-room Hyatt Valencia will feature more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 6,000 square-foot ballroom. This will be the largest meeting facility in the Santa Clarita Valley. Hyatt Valencia will feature a full-service restaurant and lounge, an outdoor patio eating area and an outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool. The hotel's design will mirror Southern California's Spanish-style architecture with stone floors inside the building and a stucco finish and a red-tile roof on the outside. The hotel's interior designer is Hirsch/Bedner & Associates. "Hyatt was founded in Southern California 40 years ago, and since then, the region has been very good to us.

There are more than a dozen Hyatts from San Diego to Los Angeles to Palm Springs," said Douglas G. Geoga, president, Hyatt Hotels Corp. "The agreement to manage this hotel, in Newhall Land's exciting and vibrant community, reaffirms our commitment to the region and to Hyatt's overall strategy for growth and expansion," he added. "Bringing in Hyatt to manage this hotel demonstrates our commitment to making this a first class property," said Thomas L. Lee, chairman and chief executive officer of Newhall Land. "Hyatt Valencia is well located next to shopping, industry and recreation and will offer hospitality to a variety of leisure, business and group customers," he added. Hyatt Valencia will be located approximately one and one-half miles from the entrance to Six Flags Magic Mountain, a major amusement park. The pre-opening sales contact for Hyatt Valencia is Lisa Haller, 310/301-2664. After Feb. 1, she may be reached at 415/675-6200. For sales and reservations for Hyatts in California, call 800/HYATTCA.
